Powering Stagecoach’s Electrification Strategy
Fleet optimisation
Having already partnered with VEV for the rollout of charging infrastructure across multiple depots, Stagecoach also has trusted VEV to manage the procurement and optimisation of power, unlock cost savings and improve control over energy use across some of their electric fleet. This needed to be done without compromising vehicle readiness or operational reliability.
Results & Impact
Energy Optimisation
VEV’s power cost optimisation programme covers over 150 electric buses and c. 13 GWh of annual energy use across multiple Stagecoach electric depots.
Cost savings
By combining deep operational insight with energy market intelligence, the solution is delivering greater than 10% of extra savings versus an already optimised power supply contract.
Smart Charging
The smart charging algorithm ensures chargers operate at the lowest possible cost, within operational constraints, while guaranteeing every vehicle is ready to depart on schedule.
About Stagecoach Yorkshire
Stagecoach Yorkshire is at the forefront of the UK’s public transport shift towards cleaner, more sustainable operations through an ambitious electrification strategy.
Committed to creating a cleaner, more sustainable transport network, 57 electric buses will replace over two-thirds of the diesel fleet in Chesterfield and North Eastern Derbyshire in Spring 2025.
The Chesterfield depot has been modernised into a state-of-the-art charging and energy hub, marking the largest of four planned electrification projects.
The project is funded by Stagecoach itself, alongside Derbyshire County Council, and the UK Government’s ZEBRA 2 scheme.
