Multimodal: VEV CEO outlines the golden opportunity for eHGV adoption in 2025, the Year of the Electric Truck

“The window of opportunity for eHGV adoption is open — delays could cost you”

Speaking at Multimodal this week, VEV CEO Mike Nakrani made the case for why 2025 represents a golden opportunity for fleets to transition to electric Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and embrace the Year of the Electric Truck.

Presenting to the main-stage audience at the NEC in Birmingham, Mike encouraged operators to embrace the change that is coming to the fore in the sector and reap the benefits of true zero tailpipe emissions, cleaner deliveries, improved driver working conditions, reduced downtime and cost-efficient operations. He also highlighted the new generation of electric trucks with second-generation vehicles coming in at around £70-80k less than the original models while delivering a 250km-plus average increase in range.

He said: “The tipping point for electric truck adoption is coming – and fleets need to be ready to capitalise on it. The total cost of ownership for eHGVs is approaching parity with diesel-powered equivalents, and with OEMs under increasing pressure to deliver, new fit-for-purpose vehicles are coming on stream.

“At the same time, businesses’ customers are actively looking for partners who can support their scope 3 emissions goals – and the pressure to deliver will fall on fleets. Early movers are gaining these contracts, learning faster, and adapting their operations. With infrastructure and vehicle delivery bottlenecks an inevitability in the near future, delaying eHGV fleet adoption means that businesses will lose competitiveness and carbon credibility. That is why 2025 is the Year of the Electric truck – and the time for fleets to act is now.”
