Challenge
Tootbus London recognised that switching to electric vehicles would significantly reduce emissions. However, delivering a truly sustainable sightseeing service required a holistic, end-to-end approach.
Electrification alone was not enough. The business needed to ensure:
- Renewable energy supply for existing EVs
- On-site solar generation to further reduce grid reliance
- Charging infrastructure within limited site power capacity
- Ongoingoptimisationof energy and charging performance
The objective was to create a fully integrated green tourism model — not just electric buses, but a sustainable energy ecosystem to power them.
Solution
VEV partnered with Tootbus London to develop the overall fleet electrification and energy strategy.
The solution included:
- Supplying 100% renewable power via VEV’s supply partner
- Installation of 10 charging points
- Deployment of roof-mounted solar panels projected to generate 65,000 kWh annually
- Implementation of the VEV-IQ software management system to monitor and operate power supply, charging infrastructure and solar generation
VEV-IQ enables Tootbus to operate within its current low power capacity while optimising performance and identifying further opportunities to increase charging capability.

Tootbus, owned by RATP Dev, operates sightseeing services in four cities across three European countries. The brand has a strong strategic focus on green tourism, with 60% of its fleet currently classified as green and expansion ongoing.
Through the integration of renewable energy supply, solar generation, charging infrastructure and VEV-IQ software, Tootbus London now operates a more sustainable end-to-end electrified tourism model.
The project demonstrates how fleet electrification, when combined with intelligent energy management, can deliver measurable carbon reductions while maintaining operational reliability.
