Milence's First Electric HGV Charging Hub in the UKK
16000 m²
Strategically located charging hub site at Immingham, Able Humber Port
8 x 400 kW
High-power DC chargers in phase one, supported by a 3.6 MVA connection
32 Bays
Future-proofed design allowing expansion to serve hundreds of HGVs per day
Challenge
Milence appointed VEV to manage the development of its first UK electric HGV charging hub at Immingham, serving key freight routes across the UK and Europe.
The project required:
- Securing and preparing a16,000 m² site with strong UK–Europe connectivity
- Delivering high-performance charging infrastructure suitable for heavy-duty vehicles
- Designing a scalable solution capable of significant future expansion
- Managing power supply, planning approvals and flood risk mitigation
The hub needed to be operational in phase one while engineered for long-term growth.
Solution
VEV delivered a full turnkey solution from design to construction, creating an advanced electric HGV charging facility.
The solution included:
- Development of a high-spec site launching with 8 charging bays
- Installation of 400 kW DC chargers powered by a 3.6 MVA connection
- Electrical and civil infrastructure designed for expansion to 32 bays
- Sustainable construction methods includingfibreconcrete and reduced steel use
- Timber roof structures designed to support future solar installation
- Biodiversity improvements throughadditionaltrees and grasses
VEV also secured power and planning approvals and delivered the build in record time while maintaining a sustainable and eco-conscious approach.
"Expanding into the UK with our first charging hub in Immingham is a significant milestone for Milence. VEV played a central role in every aspect of the project, from sourcing the prime site to planning, design and construction, managing the delivery of our high-spec HGV hub"
Outcome
- The first Milence electric HGV charging hub operational in the UK
- High-power charging infrastructure supporting heavy-duty freight vehicles
- Scalable site infrastructure ready for expansion to 32 bays
- Reduced CO₂ impact through sustainable material choices
- Positioned to accelerate zero-emission HGV adoption along a key UK freight corridor
The project establishes critical charging infrastructure for long-haul freight while supporting Milence’s ambition to build Europe’s largest public charging network for e-HDV.

Detail
Milence, established in July 2022, is a joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP and the Volvo Group. The organisation is committed to building and operating Europe’s largest public charging network for electric heavy-duty vehicles.
The Immingham hub is a cornerstone of that strategy, delivering high-performance public charging infrastructure designed specifically for long-haul freight operations.
By integrating high-power charging capability, scalable infrastructure design and sustainable construction practices, VEV supported Milence in delivering a future-ready HGV charging facility aligned with Europe’s transition to zero-emission heavy transport.
