Challenge
Dawsongroup vans appointed VEV to deliver a full turnkey electrification solution at its largest depot in Milton Keynes.
The site faced power supply limitations that restricted fleet electrification growth. The challenge was to:
- Overcome grid capacity constraints
- Enable expansion of a growing electric fleet
- Deliver a cost-effective and sustainable charging solution
- Integrate renewable generation and storage into a cohesive system
The solution needed to provide resilience, scalability and long-term operational efficiency.
Solution
VEV delivered a clean energy microgrid combining renewable generation, battery storage and smart charging management.
The solution included:
- Installation of a 262 kWp solar PV system
- Integration of 300 kWh battery storage
- Deployment of 34 × 22 kW EV chargers connected to the microgrid
- Implementation of the VEV-IQ digital platform for smart charging management and intelligent load balancing of on- and off-grid power usage
From planning and design to procurement, power connection, project management and build, VEV delivered the state-of-the-art facility as a fully integrated system.
"We chose to leverage VEV’s expertise in delivering end-to-end electrification solutions for our Vans business and can now show our customers how they can thrive in the electric age and meet emissions-reduction obligations"
Outcome
- Power constraints at the Milton Keynes depot successfully overcome
- On-site renewable generation reducing reliance on grid electricity
- Intelligent load balancing optimising cost-efficiency
- Forecast carbon savings of 65 tonnes of CO₂ per year
The project demonstrates how microgrid integration can unlock fleet electrification even where grid capacity is limited.
